I need your help with a Rock Column
Faithful readers —
I'm thinking of doing a Rock Column about lyrics that local people relate to, maybe to come up with a possible list of songs that might be "Battle Creek's Soundtrack."
For example, some of my favorite lyrics are:
- "I'll make it to the moon if I have to crawl..." from The Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Scar Tissue"
- "I think I'm gonna go back to the house in North Carolina, lay in the backyard, get drunk and let the leaves just bury me, bury me..." from Everclear's "Fire Maple Song"
- "The truth is you could cut my throat, and with my one last gasping breath, I'd apologize for bleeding
on your shirt..." from Taking Back Sunday's "You're So Last Summer"
- "I check myself in the mirror... I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face..." from The Boss' "Dancing in the Dark"
The idea, then, is that if I get few people's lyrics that mean the most to them, that best tell their story, it in fact tells the story of our Cereal City. Because, as everyone should know, the most important of any city, state or country's story is the worries and joys of its people.
So, please, send me an e-mail (jhinkley@battlecr.gannett.com) or a MySpace message with some of your favorite song lyrics, and why they're important to you. Please include your full name and the town where you live.
Gracias, mi amigas.
J.A.H.
