One more UM thing
If you think Dantonio is reved up for this rivalry, let me tell you a story about an incident that occured shortly after the game.
After the post game press conference I had to go back through the tunnel onto the field to get back to the press box and pick up all of my stuff. The Spartan marching band was taking up most of the tunnel and standing still as they tried to leave the stadium. Behind them was the UM band.
The UM band curved to the right and were pretty much blocking the field. I considered cutting through some tuba players, but since I had my video camera I decided to just walk around. As soon as I turned to start walking around I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the band started moving.
At the same instant I heard someone say "You can't come through here!" I turned around and saw Coach Narduzzi - carrying his young daughter on his shoulders - had decided to cut through the tuba players.
The next couple of seconds sort of blended together, but I saw some shoving and heard some angry words. I guess Narduzzi cut through right as the band started moving and was bumped, or shoved by one of the tuba players. Needless to say Narduzzi was peeved.
He yelled and hurled a few choice remarks at the band; basically accusing them of having no class, bumping him while he was with his daughters, and so forth. If he hadn't been with his family, Narduzzi may have needed to be held back from fighting with the Wolverine tuba section.
The situation cooled down as quickly as it started and the band left through the tunnel with Narduzzi venting his anger vocally for a few seconds as he walked away.
I don't know if anyone else saw this or heard anything but I thought I'd share after you all had a chance to absorb the loss.
You think the defense might be playing with more fire next week, and especially next year in AA?

Color me baffled. A State coach decides to cut through the middle of the UM band; there's no allegation that they intentionally bumped him or even said anything to him, but it's clear that he threw a temper tantrum at them (and while with his young daughter, no less); and this is somehow more fodder for the State motivation mill?
State needs to spend more time manufacturing victories and less time manufacturing drama -- after a loss, no less.

I agree. The drama is getting old. I am a die-hard State fan and always will be, but we lost the football game to a better team. Yes Mike Hart showed no class with his "little brother" comment, but all of this drama is just a way to cover up the fact that our program isn't at the level of Michigan's yet. I have no doubt that we will be though. The only way to answer the immaturity is to beat them on the field.
Just think about how good it will feel when we kick their arrogant asses around the big house next year.

michigan state is on michigans level.. they just lack 1 or 2 db's they can make any play.. that allows the backers focus more on run support.. think of all the come from behind losses.. almost all receiving touchdowns.. wether it be edwards or manningham.. one deflection outta all of those plays and they win..

Hey Coach Dantonio...
Class!!??
Before you decided to have a "Moment of Silence" for the Michigan football team after they lost to Applachian State, you should have given a little thought to the fact that you would have to face them. Then you have the nerve to talk about the comment Mike Hart said?? Looks like the joke was on you!! Michigan is far from dead. You need to learn a little class yourself!!
Go Blue!!
Posted by: Reggie | November 06, 2007 at 03:27 AM
MSU's coach should have shown a little class, himself. Coach Carr never would have commented about a 'moment of silence'. Nor do I think that Tom Izzo would have said something like that.
Granted, Mike Hart shouldn't have said what he said, but he's a 21-year old player and a bit prone to hyperbole at times.
Coach D, looks like you'll be bowing toward Ann Arbor for another 360 days. It looks like pride did come before the fall.

You State people are obsessed!! WoW!
Posted by: Tom | November 06, 2007 at 07:12 AM
Hey scUM, go blow! Bought time to go crawl into your hole. OSU's coming and then a bowl loss. And then another 8 month wait, because you suck at every other sport. UM has to be sued to put in adequate wheel chair access in that big ugly soup bowl they play in. Now that is class! How Pathetic.

I'm so tired of hearing about the Dantonio "Moment of Silence" comment. He made this one little crack and the UM folks blow it up into a major scandal. I believe following this comment he also stated that he knew UM would recover and be in the thick of things for the Big 10 title at the end of the season. Also, he has repeatedly, since his hire, spoke of his admiration for the UM program and how it is his measuring stick and his model for success. Somehow, all this is forgotten and the only thing that is remembered is the "silence" comment. Who's obsessed with whom?

I much better have a coach go off on a ump lumpa from Michigan than a coach that slaps himself in front of everyone. Hart is a classless player and always will be. Coach D is the man for the job and will take the program to the next level. Sparty on!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Bryan | November 06, 2007 at 08:21 AM
Dantonio started talking all of this smack with that "moment of silence" comment. That fired up the Michigan players and now you're going to blame Michigan when they beat you on your home field and let you know that they "heard" you? And now, you want to give them something else to think about when you play them again? Just how smart are you anyway?
And if I were you, I would have reserved my comments until after I had played them and beat them. Because if Michigan lost to ASU and then Michigan beats MSU, then what does that say about MSU?
Think FIRST man BEFORE you speak from now on.

hey Reggie...you wanna talk about class? You're on a MSU site trashing our coach. yeah, that's real classy jerk.
It's nice to know that you would take time and come in here. Maybe you should get a life.
Hart is a true michigan man... a true jerk off.

Reggie,
Get ready for another moment of silence after OSU wipes you off the football field in the Big House and your season really disappears. GO GREEN - GO WHITE!

Michigan "fans" are such a joke. The only time they are fans is when they are winning. We'll see where they are at after OSU stomps them and basketball season rolls around. That is the difference between State and scUM fans. They are only fans when things go good for them. I am a true State fan year round! I just don't buy a Michigan shirt after the game and call myself a fan! Get ready for hibernation weasels! It's gonna be a long winter!

Suck at every other sport? Excuse me? What? Basketball? Because that's about it -- and that will change.
2nd in the nation in hockey currently, won the series against MSU last year in that sport as well.
Won a national title in softball a few years back and had multiple national champions in track this past year.
Oh, and went deep in Baseball playoffs.
Questions?
Do some research before you make overgeneralized comments.

I remember all the fist fights after the MSU/M game and the ND game when I was a student in the early 60's...so tell Narduzzi that this confrontation is not unusal! I was sitting on the 45 behind the M bench and they were not laughing. They looked like a beaten team, hands on hips, heads
down. Hart was on his butt from having his knee twisted like a pretzel.
I talked to my Michigan friend who lives for M football. He agreed that the Wolverines looked and acted like a beaten team in the 4th quarter. We calmly discussed the game and he couldn't say enough positive things about the MSU football team and Dantonio. He is an honest person who knows his football. He hates the "prevent"
defense too ...and reminded me that Bo and Lloyd both used it to the frustration of the M fans!
Can someone tell me how the M Band gets a police escort to this game?? They almost caused some accidents on 496 forcing people to pull over and stop on ramps!!
Go Green!

this is exactly what i was afraid of when App state beat UofM. that was the best move Mich made all year. by losing to them and following it with a lackluster flop against the ducks, they made sure that every team would under estimate them. thats just what we did. none of us can predict the future but i like what i see from these players and Dantonio. next year Carr will be gone (there i go making predictions again) following another OSU loss and another Bowl loss. Mich fans face it, this was your last victory of the year. i am just guessin though.

All great comments; excellent POV's. Agree with most of it, including some of the stuff about trash talk. Comes from both sides, and is easy to misquote and take out of context. UM can talk more smack 'cause they won. Had we won (and we should have!) we'd be screaming "overrated." As it is we need to wait one more year, again.
Hope MD and his staff are recruiting the "H" out of the US and Canada looking for some cover DB's with some field presence, smarts, speed, willingness to play "bump and run."
Oh, and did I mention smarts? Maybe a new DB coach would help, too.

Hey Big Papi (clever, I'm sure you're probably fatter and less attractive than David Ortiz), you won the season series vs. MSU in hockey last year but oddly I seem to recall the National Championship game pitted MSU vs. BC and, by gosh, MSU won. So take your little regular season series win and stick it where the sun don't shine.

The problem with MSU football is that it is always comparing itself to the most successful program in the history of the sport. Nobody wins more than Michigan. It is the winningest program in college football history in both number of wins, and percentage. Mr. Dantonio is suffering from a bad case of not being able to take what he dishes out. His angry assertions of future victories will come back to haunt him. He should take a moment to look back before he decides he can change history. And to denigrate another teams player because of his size is beyond contempt. Mike Hart may be small, but he is a giant on the football field. Perhaps Mr. Dantonio didn't notice that when Hart flew by his defense for 118 yards?

And... all these UM fans continue to hit up the MSU web boards non-stop... and we're (MSU) the ones that have issues!?! Again, CHECK YOURSELF!!! These whiny & ingorant UM fans posting their little comments about hockey and basketball on MSU web sites is hilarious... don't y'all have Weasel.com or something else you can go vent on!?!

knooer,
You must have a Michigan education to distort as you did. A question was asked of MD whether there should be a moment of silence which caught him a little off guard. He did not suggest the moment of silence. I will note however almost the entire u of m nation expressed one for Carr after that loss.

personally i like whats happened on both sides. thats what this game is all about. the things michigan did after the game show that they do care about the game. and dantonio called michigan on disrespecting his team. he made it pretty clear to me that his teams would always be ready to play michigan. and i think with a little more talent he'll have a lot of wins against michigan.
Posted by: bradford | November 06, 2007 at 11:21 AM
King Kong, I agree with you. It's a nice thought for MSU to aspire to be on the same level as Michigan and Ohio State, but is that really reasonable right now? As a die-hard Spartan fan, I would be absolutely thrilled if we brought ourselves up to the level of say, Wisconsin or Purdue. Those teams are competitive every year, and while they do not win the Big Ten every year, they have each won championships in the past 10 years, with the occasional victory over both Michigan and OSU. Hang in there, they'll pull it together!
