Thursday night's home game against the U-M women had perhaps one of the best endings of any game this season. After losing by 9 on the road to the Wolverines earlier this month, the Spartans pulled off a 3-point win at home. Hallelujah. Otherwise, the headline on this post would have read "MSU Women: Allergic to rebounding."

Wow, I never thought I'd be doing this (mostly because I never thought I'd have to), but I have to give some serious recognition to Goran Suton for his play as of late. G is actually playing like a big man these days and the improvements he's made in positioning and timing in the rebounding game is remarkable. Despite three turnovers last night, he only has four turnovers in the last four games. He hits his free throws and is becoming very aggressive defensively (he's made a couple of very hard fouls in the last two games - which is much better than the touch fouls that allow for three-point plays).

With a win over Illinois tonight the Spartans will have their best start ever.

Another game I'm very excited about because quite honestly we owe the Illini a few years worth of whoopins from the anguish and heartbreak they put us through during the Dee Brown/Deron Williams era.

Perhaps one of the funniest cheers I've ever heard out of the Izzone - thought they're we're some pretty funny signs too. Good win for MSU today. It wasn't quite the blowout I was hoping for but it was never really in question either. It looks like Neitzel's shot is back and it was fun watching him toy with the Wolverine defense with several great passes for Spartan dunks

We still aren't playing as well as we'd like or expect, but the wins keep piling up, and that's all that matters.

Boy I was close to hitting the MSU-NU game score on the head (I said 78-63, it was 78-62) and I was also correct about Chris Allen having a career day (matching his scoring high of 17 points). I won't boast too much but it does feel good to be right. Anyway, I thought MSU played a pretty sharp game last night. The Spartans had a lot of intensity on both ends of the floor and despite giving up the big leads, they played poised and really controlled the game.

I'm calling out Chris Allen to have a career game offensively tonight. We'll get a ton of open looks from three against Northwestern's 1-3-1 zone defense and the Wildcats lack of size lends to MSU playing a smaller lineup and Allen getting a ton of minutes. He looked comfortable against Minnesota for the first time since the injury and we all know he wasn't afraid to fire the ball beforehand.

The Spartans have yet to really dominate one of their conference opponents this year, but they have a nice opportunity to do just that tonight and Sunday against two lower tier teams.
