My Unsung Hero? The Elf...

Yes, the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year is back. Lucas had a stellar game, scoring 24 points while shooting 66%, and also contributed 6 assists and 3 steals while delivering a great floor game. It is nice to see him back at full strength.

However, my key player of the game was Mike Kebler. His stats are less impressive, 0-1, 1 assist and 0 turnovers in 13 minutes. But with Lucious out due to an academic problem, he also put forth the qualitative cold bucket of water on the red hot Talor Battle. I need to scan the DVR again, but I counted only one bucket Battle scored on Kebler, a tough layup in the lane. That defense was sorely needed as before Kebler entered in the second half in relief of Lucas, Battle was hoisting up shots from the concessions stand, and they were mostly going in.

On offense, he was steady. No turnovers, which is something that plagued the team the last time it was on the road. At 6-4, I thought his height bothered Battle a little, and yet he was still quick enough to stay with him.

The road stretch from heck continues @ IU next week, Tuesday, 7:00 Eastern tip, on ESPN. I think anyone willing to write MSU off in the Big Ten chase is in for a rude awakening.
