With the Spartans' deflating loss Saturday night to Illinois, we're now left to wait until March 17, fingers crossed, to see if the women get an NCAA tournament bid.

Of all the wins they've needed this season, this might well have been the biggest and most-needed: The MSU Spartan women took down the Minnesota Gophers 56-51 Friday night in the quarter-finals of the Big Ten Tournament (after losing to them twice during the regular season). Their first game against Grand Valley State showed some real promise ... except for the frustration of Allyssa De Haan's ankle injury. Then, in their second exhibition game, against Lake Superior State, Aisha Jefferson went down -- then out for the season, with a knee injury.
