The Duffy Daugherty Memorial Award banquet was a good one, headlined of course by Jim Tressel but highlighted as well by Jackson Lumen Christi coach Herb Brogan and Ovid-Elsie running back Chris Robinson, who will play for Grand Valley State in the fall.

ESPN just announced its Jimmy V Classic matchups for next year, and it has a nice doubleheader on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Madison Square Garden. The early game (7 p.m.) is Kansas-Memphis, followed by MSU vs. Syracuse.

Rick Lilly, your quest is complete, basically. Lilly and several former MSU players have been working to get the late Brad Van Pelt's number retired, and this morning MSU announced that Van Pelt and the late John Pingel will join George Webster, Don Coleman, Bubba Smith and John Hannah in MSU's "Ring of Fame" in the east upper deck of Spartan Stadium. The ceremony will take place before the Sept. 18 night game against Notre Dame.

Blushing at the prediction of a high-scoring game, first of all. The Green just beat the White 17-10, the game ending when Eric Gordon stopped Andrew Maxwell after a gain of six on a fourth-and-10 trick play with Keshawn Martin taking a screen behind the line and throwing back to Maxwell.
