Busy times on the political front. Denise Ilitch announced today she will not seek the Democratic nomination for governor this year.
That’s a huge break for Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero since Ilitch had more name identification and a much more visible path to the piles of money needed to run.
Should the Democratic primary come down to, say, Bernero vs. House Speaker Andy Dillon, Bernero would have to be the favorite. Dillon has worked hard to anger several groups whose members tend to vote heavily in Democratic primaries. Bernero could have a field day with “Democrat In Name Only” swings against Dillon.
