The city is reshaping its police precincts, creating 2 specialty divisions. This, says the mayor’s office, will save $700,000.
The savings appear to come from the reduction of six positions -- five officers and one administrative assistant. That works out to a per person savings of $116,000.
I presume that covers wages and benefits and a rough rule of thumb is that benefits equal 30 percent to 50 percent of an employee’s wages, so that would all work out to an average salary of more than $70,000.
Is that too much, too little or just right for a police sergeant or lieutenant?
