Lansing Urban Farms, Community Gardens, Kitchen Gardens...
There are over a hundred community gardens growing food or a combination of food and ornamentals within a twenty minute radius by car from the Capitol. Add on the numerous ornamental gardens, home gardens, and local farms in the tri-county area, and you've got a glorious cross-section of what the mitten can grow.
Looking for a tour?
Thanks to support from many local agencies, the capacity for diversifying our food production in and around Lansing is truly breathtaking. And, thanks to hard-working residents, gardeners, and volunteers, many opportunities have given fruit. New collaborations to achieve increased food security are mixing with some farms, gardens, and markets that have been around 30 years or more.
Here are some of the people, places, and groups that are growing food right under your nose. There are plenty more--and I'm down for a stroll or cruise if you're looking to explore. Interested in a certain area? Leave your comments or questions below...

I love it when communities work together for a sustainable living. I'm actually pushing for a community garden for our area to profit from it.
