Saul Anuzis gets an endorsement he doesn't want
Usually, one waits until after an election before going after the head of the state party. Not Michigan's GOP. Rumors of discontent within the ranks over state Chair Saul Anuzis' job performance became public at least one week before the November 7th election. Most of those rumors centered around national GOP activist Chuck Yob and his chosen candidate Dave Dishaw.
The split has gone along mostly regional lines, with many West Michigan Republicans lining up to endorse Dishaw.
In recent days, backers for Anuzis have come out of the shadows, including heavyweights like Attorney General Mike Cox, Senate Majority Leader Ken Sikkema (a West Michigander himself) and former Lt. Gov. Dick Posthumus.
But one group that Anuzis probably doesn't want is giving him an overwhelming show of support.
Michiganliberal.com is leading a host of liberal bloggers toward a tongue-in-cheek endorsement of Anuzis. As of this post, MichLib hasn't quite pulled the trigger, but Anuzis is the far and away leader in their endorsement poll, and site founder Matt Ferguson is stumping hard for him.
The thinking goes, Saul hasn't done a great job, so re-elect him and there will be tons of Democratic victories in the near future. It probably won't make a big difference in the Republican picture, as Anuzis seems to be consolidating support anyways. That said, it certainly can't help Anuzis' cause that the folks he's paid to beat on election day think the best chance for Democrats is with him in charge of the GOP.
With enemies like that, who needs friends?

I saw him in a TV interview a few
days before the election and if
body language means anything I think he knew then that things
were not going to go well.
