One hopes President Obama has some good ideas when he addresses the nation on jobs Thursday.
Viable plans to boost the employment rolls could not come a moment too soon in Michigan, which has had consistently high unemployment for years. Moreover, Gov. Rick Snyder Tuesday signed into law Republican-backed legislation that places a four-year limit on welfare benefits in Michigan.
Department of Human Service officials say they expect that 12,500 families will be kicked off welfare Oct. 1
Without a good plan to spur job growth in Michigan and elsewhere in the county, I don’t wish to consider what will befall these families. Homeless shelters have limited resources and can only house so many people.
After months of inane debate about deficits, perhaps finally the nation can put the focus on jobs where it belongs.
