One of the most bitter political fights in Michigan from last fall finally found air time this week on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”
The show took the view that any support for a ballot proposal to block a new international bridge between Detroit and Windsor was farcical, since many argue it wouldn’t cost Michigan a red cent. The show even poked fun at Detroit militant activist Malik Shabazz for siding with “the man” --- businessman Matty Moroun – in his efforts to block the new bridge to protect his own Ambassador Bridge.
A highlight: A nervous Daily Show correspendent realizing the sun was setting in Detroit and watching his car hightailing it out of town.
All in all, pretty good satire, as only “The Daily Show” – or “The Colbert Report” – can do.
Strangely, though, the segment made it sound like the proposal battle was still going on. It did not mention the proposal went down in flames in November.
