Mama's Dairy

Do you like ice cream? How about cheese? What do you think about these two things being made with human milk? That's right, milk from human women. Are you disgusted or intrigued? Why?

Many comments I've seen and heard revolving around human milk consumption have a lot to do with regulation and safety, and many people react with knee-jerk disgust at the idea, but millions of gallons of commercially-produced cow's milk is consumed in cheese, yogurt, processed powders, beverages, and more each year with nary a thought as to where it comes from, or how the process of obtaining it is regulated. I found this juxtaposition to be fascinating.

Even more fascinating to me were the opinions of a half-dozen Local Mamas that responded to my post on FaceBook regarding the subject, and their unanimous enthusiasm. Yes! They responded, they would not only try the ice cream, they would make it themselves... but only if the source was acceptable i.e their own. Why would human milk demand such discernment, while so many other food items are eagerly picked off grocery shelves in boxes and cans or cartons, with no history whatsoever?
