Snack Well
Call it 'the munchies', 'getting snacky', or 'grazing'- either way it's what we do when we're in between meals, and it can be easy to rack up extra calories without really knowing it. The key is creating available snacks that are healthy go-to's that will kill that urge to nibble while keeping the calorie intake in the double digits.
I went back to my childhood this afternoon when I stuffed a large bunch of celery with natural, unsweetened almond butter. To add a little sweetness, I placed the "ants on a log" with rasins, and drizzled a bit of honey across the stalks- my husband and I managed to get off the sugar-filled Jiff brand peanut butter several y
ears ago (not without much despair, might I add) and when we miss the candy-like spread, we use honey as a stand in.
I've found that if I'm hungry and junk food is in front of me, I'll eat the junk food. But if I've got good options, I'll choose those over chips or cookies any time. This week at least I;ve got those good options covered.
