Sunny Exclamation Point

Oh my goodness, was today awesome or what?! Did you know that natural sunlight contains vital nutrients like Vitamin D, which can reduce depression and a host of other silments like weight gain, fatigue, sleeplessness, and more?!? Did you know that being in the sun can make you want to shout questions at anyone who will listen and use the exclamation point-question mark combo more than usual?!

It has been cold and rainy for so long that I start to get a little crazy when the sun finally appears for hours at at a time. Today was no exception, and knowing that 'the perfect sunny day' in Lansing, MI can be fleeting, I wanted to extract as much joyful playtime outdoors as possible. We have to multi-task here in The cloudy Mitten State, so today I managed to fit in a run, a bike ride, playtime with some great doggie pals, sunny conversation with friends, a little gardening, and even learned a little about fly fishing. What a day!

Filling a day with so much can be exhausting in colder months, but when it is as beautiful as it was today, all the playing and great weather made for a happy (but sleepy) me. I hope your Mother's Day rocked, too.

Sun in moderate amounts is beneficial to us as it gives us energy and builds up our immune system. It is recommended to expose your skin to the sun equivalent to 15minutes at midday. This means that you don’t go out and sunbake and get sunburnt at midday but you go out in the morning or in afternoon but stay in the sun longer than 15 minutes as the sun radiation is not as strong.
