I often spend a little more time contemplating in the fall...I go over the events of the summer, visiting each trip or special day in succession before I pack the memories away for the winter. This summer I completed one sprint-distance triathlon, one 1-mile swim in Lake Michigan, 1 DragonBoat race, 5-5K's and my first 8K road race to date. This past weekend, I finally allowed myself to truly feel the satisfaction I have been opting out of for four long months as I crossed the finish line at the Playmaker's Autumn Classic.

Oh, if I only had a snapshot of my view as I turned eastward on Allegan this sunny fall morning into the sun. For blocks ahead of me, the entire street was crowded with hundreds of runners. The sunlight streamed onto my face and warmed my chilly fingers, and I was flooded suddenly with emotion, as it occurred to me in that instant how far I have truly come.

Yesterday my neighbor stopped me as I was putting my bike into our (extremely messy, ok, kinda trashed) garage and voiced her concern over what she described as "a family of opossums" making night-time treks from the surrounding area to our property. She wrinkled her nose as she said it, like she was disgusted.

Over the Labor Day weekend, Lansing hosted its first Dragon Boat Race as part of an effort to give Lansing residents a 'stay'cation', or a reason to not leave town. Usually town is dead over the weekends, and it was a bit creepy as my husband and I headed to Adado Park in the wee hours of Sunday morning to rally up with our newly-formed Dragon Boat team- the streets were empty and Lansing was unusually quiet.
