Disappointment
A few posts ago I wrote about my indecisiveness regarding attending my first ever Black Friday shopping spree that is an annual event with the women of my husband's family. After acknowledging my inability to relax my disgust over what Black Friday essentially stands for, I made the decision to stay home and sleep in. Today I saw videos that solidified my take on this showcase of all that is wrong with the consumer today.
I believe standing in a line for hours for material posessions is wasteful, but seeing human beings being physically held back with a metal gate to avoid them trampling others as they rush into a Best Buy store takes 'revolting' to an entirely new level. Today I watched videos of people fighting each other with their hands, pieces of merchandise, and even pepper spray. I watched police officers subdue a drunk and disorderly shopper by sweepingh is feet out from under him and smashing his face into a concrete floor, leaving him bloodied and in shock. Is this really who we are? Is this a snapshot of the human race?
We have all of us forgotten how to be thankful for the simple ability to breathe, to be surrounded by loved ones, to see a sunny day. Had another race of beings viewed us from afar yesterday, I am certain they would have been disappointed, as I am today, to see how we treat each other when a cheap plastic bauble is dangled before our eyes.
