I caught a cold a few days ago, and it has been giving me a bit of a difficult time in the breathing department. After surviving my family's Christmas on Monday with the help of 800mg of Tylenol, I succumbed to sweatpants and a space heater the following day for some much-needed R&R. I awoke yesterday morning feeling so much better that I got dressed and went straight to the gym, needing the movement but struggling against a myriad of excuses that would make Santa's list look like a post-it note.

Yesterday was this year's Winter Solstice, most commonly recognized as our longest night of the year, and also the beginning of the suns's path northward and towards longer days and eventually, Summer. Being a gardener for several years, the Solstice has always held importance to me in regards to planting and harvesting, but yesterday evening I found new meaning for this event with my yoga practice, as I did my own 108 Sun Salutes to recognize this pause in the sun's path.

Bah Humbug! My Christmas spirit has diminished considerably, due in part to the absolutely ridiculous weather we're having- no snow on the ground not only 'feels' less Christmas-y, it looks less Christmas-y. But I feel a distinct lack of Christmas Magic this year that I've never felt before.

I signed up for my first Half Marathon a few weeks ago, and I've been contemplating this next big step in a long-term personal fitness plan that ends with me racing a full IronMan by 2016. I don't feel particularly frightened by the idea of running 13.1 miles, but I'm not sure I'm ecstatic about it, either.

Oh man, it is Christmas time already and do I want stuff again. Let me tell you, I want stuff. It's like manufacturers from around the globe somehow got inside my brain and then made crap that I specifically would be attracted to. This time of year, I feel like I want everything I see- and I have to remind myself that material stuff is not going to make me happier, thinner, a faster runner, or a better person. But it sure feels like it. Every year at this time I fall into the vortex of stuff and I can't wait for this year's bout of "Want-Itis" to pass.

So my lost kitty from my previous post returned home yesterday, making her adventure 4 nights and 5 days long. Judging from her hardly-ruffled coat, she was most likely stuck in someone's garage or shed and released when they went out to grab a wrench. My husband and I were struck yet again by our need for the ability to roll with the punches.
