Ok so I was wrong...
I bragged the other day that it wasn't going to snow 10 inches. I was sure in my mind that I was going to wake up the next morning and it was going to still be wet and soggy. I went to sleep confident and comfy... I woke up to about 6 inches of what I call cover up.
During the last few weeks I saw the slushy brown and yellow sludge from the roads creeping up the driveway. I saw the giant ruts looking to swallow my minivan and spit out the car seats. And I saw the trash lots and lots of trash. I saw the cans and bottles, wrappers and plastic bags. I saw lots of thrown away things that I don't know any one would treasure.
I am some one who tries to look at the bright side of things. I saw all of these things and thought hey in just a few months people will swarm out of their houses like bees and attack their lawn as if protecting emeralds. They will search high and low for all of those discarded remnants of Marlboro men and wraps from philly. It will be pretty and warm and clean. But what of those weeks in between? Those wet gooey gloppy weeks in between?
those are check weeks. Those are the days that you check your grill. You check to see if it has all of the right things it needs to blaze the night with the fragrance of meat! Ok for those who don't eat meat the fragrance of herbs and spices and portabella mushrooms brushed with a golden layer of olive oil ( stuff I would put on MEAT ) Sorry I am a *meat a sore! They are also the days that you wash all of those summer clothes that not only need to be cleaned but help you to remember that you have packed away other things during the winter like pounds. they remind you that QD eggnog
is not only the best in the world but it likes to hang out on your body well into the summer for all to see.
And that sushi is very light and good for you! Unless you eat it every day 10 times a day for all the winter months in front of sculptures of the chiefs at Sushi Ya!
( because its so amazingly good ) But thats what they are.
They are check days to get everything in order for what is sure to be blinding fun in the sun soon. So back to the snow. The cover up that once again reclaimed the city from the underlying trash. The clean slate making stuff that twinkles as it falls. As it fell I thought I don't think we were ready for the check days. I think that we need a few more days to take the kids out in the deep snow and build snow men and leave snow angels next to them for protection. To go down crazy steep hills that professionals would look at and shake their heads ( like waverly park hill ). And last but not least I think we needed just a few more stolen moments with family cuddled up on the couch watching movies with hot chocolate in hand. Inviting friends over to play silly bored games and laugh into the wee hours of the night. And a just a few more nights for moms and dads to lay back and listen to a quiet house surrounded by the sound damping snow snuggled under heavy blankets to stay warm. So with that let it snow let it snow let it snow....
* meat a sore: Some one who refuses to give up meat. Some one who enjoys eating meat especially BBQ till their jaws are sore
