A reason for the season

                               FA not so soft orniment
OK wait, before anyone says ‘oh no he is about to go on a religious rant’, I want to reassure you that this is about the kids. Yes, I said about the kids.

I was talking with a child the other day and they were excited about getting gifts, eating the food and sweets, yet there was no mention of family, love or well wishes. I thought about it and in my mind I said hmmm someone should say something so I am.

It has been a family tradition for years now that before Christmas we bake a cake for baby Jesus and sing Happy Birthday! We also think about and pray for the people in our lives that we love! Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas it would really benefit the kids to see the adults thankful for things that aren’t bought in a store!

Even if you don’t pray or believe in God spending a moment to be thankful for everyone that you love and the positive things in your life will change the mindset that some young ones have. We have been blessed by so many things! And each one of us is truly a blessing!

In the spirit of love I hope that everyone has a great next few weeks no matter what you do!

Last minute shopper or looking for the perfect gift?

FA santa

There is less then 3 weeks until Christmas. Are you one of those waiting until the last minute to shop or are have you been looking for the perfect gift all year?

There are shops all around Lansing that sell very unique items at very reasonable prices.  Lansing 2 Lansing 6

The first place that I will suggest is Old Town. This is a very eclectic area that sports many different artisans coming together to display and sell their items. The advantage of spending a day in Old Town is that you can spend the day going shop to shop in a very small area and see lots! The other is that the people are incredibly friendly and helpful!

The next place I'm going to suggest is Reo Town on Washington. This is another little hub in Lansing sporting artistic shops looking to sell you things very unique to Lansing. Form t-shirts to trinkets this is a great place to spend a few hours and look around.

Last but not least check out the Lansing City Market. This is a place not only to buy local grown food but also a place to buy gifts. From photos to vintage silverware jewelry. What a great place to go and not only experience great people and food but great things that support your town.  Lansing 3

This Saturday, the Lansing City Market will be transformed into a victorian marketplace for their Ye Olde Christmas with lots of events to take the whole family to. We are heading down there early so that we have the whole day for the festivities and shopping! Hope to see you there!

Lansing in Lights

Christmas lights
‘Tis the season! It’s winter time in Michigan and Lansing is lit up. It’s beautiful to drive down the street and see the love and care that people have put into decorating their homes.

Blinking lights dancing to music. Santa Claus dancing with reindeer. And elves dancing with each other. It’s beautiful, its fun, it’s whimsical and it’s exciting for the whole family. Christmas lights 4

Not all of the houses displayed are hilarious or fun filled. Some of them have a very loving message of a child in a manger that gave everything he had for all of us. A scene filled with unconditional love and gratitude. During this time millions celebrate a miraculous birth and a cleansing for those who believe.

This time honored tradition is not held for Christmas goers alone. During this time millions of menorahs appear in windows signifying the beginning of Hanukkah. Even those that celebrate Kwanza decorate their homes in red, black and green lights and put Kinaras in the windows.

It is truly a time for family and friends to come together and reflect on the important things in life. Christmas lights 5

I love that Lansing is a melting pot of beauty and style. That during these times and hopefully throughout the future everyone’s face is adorned with a smile and their hands seem to leap up to wave to all that they see. Christmas_lights_14

Happy Holidays to you. May all of your families be blessed and safe.
