Cold but clear.

The weather outside is showing its true winter spirit. It is typically near or below freezing temps outside. If you’re from Lansing then you know that being outdoors in this weather can be bitter, biting, and stinging! So if you’re out in the elements in the Capitol City, what are things that can bring a smile to your frozen face?

Well before you venture outdoors make sure that you are properly prepared and then also prepare to be amazed! There are dozens of hills for sledding including Waverly Park hill and the hill at Harry Hill Vocational center. And almost any field can be turned into a snowball arena! But it’s not all just for kids.  The hill

The sky is so much clearer in the winter time. Seeing all the brilliant lights and gorgeous buildings that accessorize our beautiful city is so much easier. Blog Lansing HDR The Capitol shines bright against the dark star filled night. Parks around town become a sanctuary for some of our fine furry friends cuddling for warmth. And then if you truly are a night owl the moon dancing over shimmering fields can send your heart racing warming the coldest nights. The mornings on some of these frigid days are begun with a spectacular sunrise similar to those on your favorite movie about love. It’s truly a winter wonderland! Blog Tower sunrise

So though the weather outside maybe frightful, our city is delightful! Go out and enjoy it!

Yeah I bet...

Casinos
If you are a resident of the great city of Lansing you have no doubt heard of the idea of bringing a casino to the city. The idea is that it will bring thousands of jobs to a place where jobs are desperately needed. Casinos 6 It will provide entertainment and a destination for people to come to like the Soaring Eagle in Mount Pleasant and MGM in Detroit. They hold lots of concerts in these places every year sporting very big names. There are tons of people that make a pilgrimage every weekend to these spots to try their luck in a trying economy. Casinos 2

What does all of this mean? Well if you’re looking at it from these same points of view it means that we could be looking at a financial face lift for our city. People walking around with money in their pocket and big smiles on their faces! Not to mention a great big shiny building like a giant jewel in the middle of our fair city. Casinos 3

Casinos 5
If you don't believe like some you may be looking at it from a bleaker point of view. With gambling typically comes more drinking, strip clubs, drugs and prostitution. Casino 7 There is typically more crime that follow casinos around because there is indeed more money floating around. Lansing has seen an enormous spike in legal marijuana stores in the area along with an increasing number of meth labs showing up or blowing up. Can we handle another blemish on the face of our lovely city?

If we don't do the research and really know what different things can happen I’m sure it will all work its self out. Right?
Yeah I bet...

Lansing its the new year!!!!!

2011
It’s the time of year that people reflect on the years past. The time of year when you take inventory of what you have and have not and what you want. Whether or not you want to lose weight or find a new carrier may be things that are on your mind. You may even be looking at the possibility of changing the dynamics of your relationship by popping the question or adding a family member. What ever your inspiration is I encourage you to dig deeper.

You have heard a million times before that we are a community a group a gathering of great minds. We are the people of the Capitol city! Lansing Michigan! We have once again ushered in a new year full of wonder and amazement and with this great gift comes great responsibility. We can no longer look blindly into the night. We have to focus on change and making things better! Every second of everyday you have the ability to change a piece of the world.

This is our piece of the world. What are we doing to change it? When was the last time we saw a police officer and said thank you for keeping our streets safer like we do the military men and women when they come back from overseas? When was the last time we prayed for all of our emergency personnel at the hospitals and in the EMT and fire trucks that help us even though that means putting themselves in harms way sometimes? When was the last time you visited your child's school and said thank you and shook their teachers hand for helping your child to become a more well rounded individual? When was the last time you looked at the media and said thank God you provide us with the vital information that we need to thrive?

It’s very easy for people to complain and look at things through a negative lens... It takes heart and soul to stand up for what you believe in!  Another 2011

Lansing what do we believe in? Who are we? And how are we going to make 2011 the best year yet?
