Two of Everett's brightest football stars the last three seasons -- quarterback Reggie Williams and safety Lavelle Walker -- will sign letters of intent next week to play at Grand Valley State.
Vikings coach Marcelle Carruthers confirmed their commitments this afternoon. Both Williams and Walker looked like potential Division I recruits when they made the State Journal all-area Dream Team at the end of last fall, and found an excellent situation as annual Division II national contender GVSU is on par with at least a a few Division I mid-majors when it comes to attracting prospects.
Williams, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound quarterback, was 107-156 passing for 1,641 yards and 17 TDs, and also ran for 586 yards and eight scores last fall in earning a Division 1-2 all-state honorable mention. Carruthers said he could play receiver with some quarterback mixed in for the Lakers.
The 5-11, 175-pound Walker had 75 tackles, including three sacks, and five interceptions to earn a Division 1-2 all-state special mention. Also a strong student, he was asked to walk-on by Michigan.
"Grand Valley got a steal with both of those kids," Carruthers said. "They're not going to get a harder worker than Lavelle, and the athleticism Reggie will give them, it will be a special situation for him wherever they put him. He'll make things happen."
