Where are the CAAC gymnastics results? Are Eastern and Sexton playing each other in football next season? Has TV and radio at high school games hurt attendance? What local games are being shown by the MHSAA this week? For the answers to these questions and more, continue reading.
GYMNASTICS: It's Tuesday and we haven't had the results in yet from the CAAC Meet on Saturday. But we'll have them as soon as we can get them. The computer used to score the meet began tallying scores incorrectly, and as of Monday afternoon they were still being re-figured. We know Grand Ledge won, as expected. But even a day ago, other teams weren't sure where they finished. Not even coaches had the final information. Stay tuned.
FOOTBALL: The rumor that Eastern and Sexton won't be facing each other this fall is not true. They will continue their annual rivalry game in Week 9. The Quakers were originally scheduled to play Lansing Catholic that night, as they have the last two seasons. But keeping the rivalries among the three public city schools remains top priority, although Sexton is in a different division of the CAAC, so the switch was made after Lansing Catholic gave its OK. Eastern also has solidified its opener, against Cedar Springs.
TV, RADIO and ATTENDANCE: This was a question posed by one of our blog posters, and I'm really wondering what the rest of you think. Has more broadcast coverage allowed casual fans to stay home? To be honest, when it comes to high school sports I've always made the argument that people who really care are at the games. Now obviously there are some who catch them on the radio or TV instead, but I don't think they are the ones who would normally be attending in person. But that's just my perspective. I'm wondering what the fans who are faced with these options think.
MHSAA NETWORK: The DeWitt at Haslett boys and girls basketball games from Jan. 23 are now online at MHSAA.tv. The Albion at Lansing Christian basketball games from Jan. 16 are now available on Comcast On Demand. Also, the MHSAA is offering DVDs of all its games, both current and classic, at MHSAA.tv.
MHSAA on your PHONE: The MHSAA is also offering to send scores from this season's state basketball tournaments to your phone or computer. Scores are available both as text and e-mail messages. To sign up, go to www.mhsaa.com and click the "Cell Scores" banner.
MY MISTAKE: I wanted to clear up one I've made multiple times this season, but was finally assisted on over the weekend. I should've triple-checked this, and apologize for not, but in fall 2006 the Okemos girls basketball team swept East Lansing during the regular season before the Trojans beat the Chieftains during the state tournament. The teams split regular-season matchups last season, and East Lansing swept this season and will play Okemos in a district opener Monday.
