Tuesday's East Lansing girls basketball victory over Detroit Country Day was obviously great for the Trojans -- but one of those rare wins that makes a statement for an entire area as well.
Country Day was considered the top team in the state, regardless of class, with seven players going Division I next season and more height than some of our boys teams.
How much does East Lansing's comeback win say for mid-Michigan? It's similar to the Holt/Everett/Okemos Class A boys basketball final run earlier this decade, and Holt's football playoff win over Rockford in 2007. Or Lansing Catholic's Class B boys basketball state title last season. Strong reminders that while this area might not have the biggest or most Class A schools, or produce as many annual big-time college prospects as some of the larger communities in this state, its teams on the whole can certainly be elite.
This is just scratching the surface, of course. What are some other wins that have spoken well of this area as a whole?
