Amber Sawyer did just about everything possible to lead Eaton Rapids to its first Softball Classic championship.
One of mid-Michigan's top all-around players last season as a sophomore too, the Greyhounds junior threw a four-hit shutout and knocked in the winning run (and scored the second) as Eaton Rapids downed Olivet 2-0.
It was bittersweet for the Eagles, who lost to Okemos in last year's championship game. Olivet started only one senior Thursday, and with superstar pitcher Chelsea Sundberg only a junior, could win this whole thing next season.
But the 27th championship belongs to Sawyer and her teammates, who added another huge accomplishment to a program that has steadily reached the heights of the area's elite during Scott Warriner's tenure as coach this decade.
