Another big-time mid-Michigan coach has resigned. This time it's Okemos girls soccer coach Rob Antcliff, who stepped down Thursday afternoon.
Antcliff led the Chieftains to the CAAC Cup Group 1 championship and the Division 1 regional finals this spring. Okemos finished 22-2-1 and also won the CAAC Blue before eventually falling in the playoffs to Portage Central, which went on to win the state championship.
Antcliff’s 10-year tenure saw his program win its only state championship, in Division 2 in 2006. It also included a new career goals record by recent graduate Nichole Schiro, single-season and career assists records by junior Kelsey Mullen this spring, and a new shutout career record by Sarah Banks, who like Schiro was also a senior this season.
With young children at home, this was another one that made plenty of sense. But it definitely feels like mid-Michigan is losing more high-profile coaches than usual already this summer. As one of the state's top programs along with recently-opened East Lansing, this will no doubt also be a highly-sought job when it's posted.
