On Monday we looked at early female candidates for 2009-10 LSJ Athlete of the Year. Here are some senior-to-be males to keep in mind.
Again, remember a candidate must be a senior and all-area in at least two sports.
Haslett's Noah Sawyer -- Made the all-area Dream Team in soccer as a junior, was one of the best players on the district champ basketball team, and one of the top golfers on the state runner-up in Division 2 despite joining the team late.
Ovid-Elsie's Chris Robinson -- Mid-Michigan's reigning football Offensive Player of the Year also was all-league honorable mention in basketball and took third-place in the TVC Central in long jump as a junior after a year off from track.
Williamston's Aaron Risch and Ryan Brooks -- Risch was one of the state's top wrestlers in his weight class and an all-area honorable mention football linebacker as a junior. Brooks was an all-area soccer player and the area's top sprinter during the spring.
Portland St. Patrick's Tyler Smith -- From one of the area's smallest schools, Smith was all-area in football, basketball and baseball this school year, and could be an all-state candidate in at least two of those as a senior.
DeWitt's Paul Jorgensen -- Will end up signing with a big-time Division I football program, and was an all-league basketball center as a junior too.
Haslett's Ian Hancke -- From the distance running category, Hancke could be the area's best in cross country this fall and track next spring.
Ithaca's Christian Marble -- He was all-area honorable mention as a receiver last fall with loads of potential in that sport, also earned accolades in basketball, and was on two league champion relays this spring.
DeWitt's Andrew Lerg, Eastern's Cameron Sanchez, Dansville's Warren Witchell and Haslett's Dom Choma -- From this group of two-sport standouts could emerge a strong candidate or two depending on who puts up a huge season in at least one of his sports.

Andy Phillips from Waverly. Football offer from CMU with quite a bit of interest from U of M and other MAC schools, All league in football since 9th grade, and led the area in tackles in 2008 despite playing 8 games while injured. All CAAC in baseball in 2007, all CAAC and finished 7th in the shot-put at MITCA state finals in 2008. He'll be a top shot putter and discus man next spring. Plus he's a very good student.
