A friend noticed this before I did when I filled him in that I'd covered Portland/Williamston football two weeks ago and St. Johns/Mason last week. His thought: Shouldn't league foes live a little closer to each other?
The CAAC today is based almost solely on enrollment, which is favored by most, I imagine. But as more area schools slide into the small Class A/large Class B grouping, I wonder how long it will be before some push for something more regional.
Not that the former leagues were any better that way. In the Capital Circuit, Okemos traveled to Lakewood. In the Ingham County league, Portland and Perry were still a solid 45 minutes apart.
I definitely like organizing by enrollment best. But it's still an intriguing question with this area's schools as a whole spread over such a distance.
