Coaches' wives are an often-overlooked key to success on the football field. But whether by her husband Jerry or his players, Louise Goosen was often brought up in those discussions over the years for her contributions at Ovid-Elsie. She died Saturday after a long battle with cancer.
A year ago, Louise was named by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association as its Fran Herrington Woman of the Year for those contributions.
Following is an excerpt from her obituary:
Louise (Lou) Ann Goosen
Lou Goosen (Klein)- aged 54, of Ovid-Elsie/
Coopersville, entered eternal life and joined family in heaven while surrounded
by her family on Saturday, January 23, 2010.
Lou loved spending time with family, cooking, and entertaining. As the wife of a football coach, she was Jerry’s number one fan. Players and coaches affectionately referred to her as “Mother Goose”. She was a tireless worker and loyally spent 26 years with Rapid Design Service and the last 10 years with Kenowa Hills Schools.
