It's been at least 10 years since mid-Michigan girls tennis featured this kind of parity. In fact, this might be the most the area has ever seen. But improved programs like Grand Ledge and Haslett have made it so.

Check out this string of scores: Williamston (the 2008 D4 state champion) tied Haslett. Seven-time state champ Okemos tied Grand Ledge. This week, Grand Ledge and Haslett have tied.

News Tip: Another Big Red playing college basketball

Following James Suttles' announcement Monday, former Big Reds standout JaVaughn Acree-Manuel has decided to continue his career at Division I Norfolk State after two seasons at the junior college level.

The 6-foot-1 shooting guard will be a junior after two seasons at the junior college level.

Nope, that's not a typo. Rather, it's an excellent opportunity for former Portland quarterback MacKenzie McGrady, who will be playing football (not European football/soccer, but U.S. football) for a team in Finland starting next month.

McGrady was overshowed some during his Raiders career but went on to put up big numbers at Alma College. Now he'll not only play quarterback for the Lappeenranta Rajaritarit (Border Stars), he'll also be their offensive coordinator and coach a youth team.
