Here's the final installment of Mid-Michigan stat leaders for baseball, softball and soccer, based on coaches' submissions. District begin Tuesday for all three sports.

NOTE: THE HONOR ROLL MEET HAS BEEN MOVED TO WAVERLY HIGH SCHOOL because the inside lanes at Sexton are in rough shape. At the meet on Wednesday, June 2, field events will start at 5:30 p.m., sprint run-offs at 6 p.m., the Eddy Awards presentation at 6:15 p.m., and running event finals at 6:30 p.m. Coaches are asked to submit scratches (when an athlete decides not to compete in a particular event) as soon as possible so other athletes can be offered a chance to compete. Please call or e-mail scratches to Dick Hoekstra (dickh@playmakers.com or 517-763-9418) or Kim Spalsbury (spalskrun@yahoo.com or 517-927-2373) throughout the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Great call

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical when the Diamond Classic decided to schedule two games on Friday of Memorial Day weekend.

I was way off. It was a great idea.

I know part of it was the Fowlerville and East Lansing fans filing in as the Grand Ledge/Holt game was coming to an end. But for a while, Cooley Law School Stadium had a solid crowd. And even before that, the Grand Ledge side was mostly full.

Perhaps with nowhere to be Saturday, that got more people out. It was also a perfect evening from a weather standpoint. Either way, it was a better scene than the typical Thursday night crowd. I'd definitely like to see it continued next year if Lugnuts scheduling permits.

News tip: East Lansing diver to St. Bonaventure

East Lansing senior diver Colin MacDonald will join St. Bonaventure’s program this fall as a walk-on after making the State Journal all-area team the last two seasons.

He will graduate with the Trojans’ six-dive record of 250.50 points.

St. Bonaventure finished second at the Atlantic 10 Championships this season for the third straight year.

News Tip: Schultz II headed to DI tennis

Former Okemos tennis standout Scott Schultz II has signed with Division I Florida Golf Coast.

Schultz II initially attended Aquinas College, but will have at least two years of eligibility remaining and could have a third. He is competing to play at one of the top two singles flights.

News Tip: Honor Roll Meet moved to Waverly

This season’s Greater Lansing Honor Roll Track Meet, scheduled for Wednesday, is being moved to Waverly from its usual home at Sexton’s Edward Majdeski Stadium.

News tip: Glanz headed to Detroit

Waverly senior Julianna Glanz made a significant impact in her lone season with the Warriors this winter after transferring from St. Johns.

And college coaches took notice, upping their interest significantly since her season ended two months ago.
