As has been the case most of the fall so far, cross country leads the way of the past weekend's top mid-Michigan non-football performances.
4. East Lansing volleyball -- The Trojans beat Waverly in the final to win the Eastern Invitational. Deborah Hoekstra led East Lansing in aces, kills and digs as her team improved to 15-10-2.
3. Lansing Christian volleyball -- The Pilgrims finished runner-up at the St. Louis Invitational, losing to Durand in the final. But they beat a solid Class B Alma team on the way, a major victory for Class D Lansing Christian.
2. Lansing Catholic girls cross country -- Senior Megan Heeder continues to put up ridiculous times. This weekend it was an 18:16 to take her division of the Grand Rapids Catholic Invitational. She's cut roughly 30 seconds off her career-best time heading into the fall.
1. Ionia boys cross country -- The Bulldogs had a new leader in junior Connor Montgomery, who became the area's first male runner to break 16 minutes this season with a 15:47 to win his division of the Grand Rapids Catholic Invitational.
