It's December, so we're still about two months out from the most significant matches of the season. But a few results from Wednesday night may tell a story of what's to come.
Reigning Division 2 state champion St. Johns beat Mason 57-9 and Holt 49-19 -- incredible, considering not only that Mason and Holt are annually state powers, but as usual also ranked again this season.
Also, DeWitt downed Corunna, which is always strong and beat Portland in its other match during this double-dual.
We'll be at Saturday's Lansing Wrestling Officials Association Bill Allen Classic at Eastern, which features 18 area teams including Grand Ledge, Eaton Rapids, DeWitt, Williamston, Fowlerville and Portland. The big three mentioned above won't be there, but regardless, the winner of this tournament will feel pretty good about its chances when league duals get going in 2011.
