The latest knees news
Goran Suton said tonight after practice that he will suit up against North Carolina and badly wants to play but isn't sure if he'll be able to go.
He did participate in parts of practice, although Monday was heavier on film sessions and walk throughs than full-blown contact. Suton's sprained knee, which he hurt against IPFW, does feel better. He ran and said he was doing fine with lateral movement. It's accelerating and decelerating, he said, that cause some pain.
More will be known Tuesday. I'd be surprised if he goes, but at least there was some improvement from Sunday to Monday.
In other knees news, Delvon Roe woke up today and said he was "very surprised" to feel as good as he did.
"Not an ounce of swelling, pain or anything," he said.
If you watched Roe this weekend, you saw just how strong an all-around player he is. As Izzo said Sunday, if he can get through this North Carolina game without any setbacks, then MSU has a couple weeks to rest him more, get him stronger, and give him a chance to be doing much more for this team by Big Ten play.
Tom Izzo and Roy Williams will weigh in on the matchup Tuesday. Ticket sales, by the way, are between 15,000 and 20,000 right now. You can have your choice of seats at Ticketmaster.com or the Ford Field box office.

the 20k seems about what we'd expect for a crowd. if they wanted to raise it to maybe 25, they could make any available seat left for $10. but in any case it's a good chance for ford field to have one last dress rehearsal.
the offense will run through suton, it's so important to have him long term.
roe looks like he will be the best player around here since randolph/richardson. maybe we'll finally again get a kid that overachieves his hype as opposed to another that doesn't live up to the expectations, fair or unfair.

Joe, I love Perles.

With everyone healthy and everyone hitting shots and rebounding we would have a hard time avoiding a double digit loss to North Carolina, they are seriously tough. We will see if our guys have realized how much they have to step up to be competitive. They did not look solid in any area during the Maryland game. It truly was atrocious. I would love a tight competitive game regardless of the outcome; it will really help in March.

15,000-20,000 tickets sold?! If that's all , they should have played it at the Breslin Center. That's pretty embarrassing for a big match up like that.

Any chances that Marquise Gray will show up and have an Andre Hutson type game?

JBSpartan-
The next Hutson has arrived. His name is Delvon.

Joe: Did you make public your predictions for the year for the basketball team? I cant find them. Could you post or repost them so I can have it? Thanks.

Three keys to beat UNC:
Defend the paint don't let them get easy baskets down low.
Rebound and run the break with minimal turnovers.
Score lots of points by making shots - quit hitting clankers-rimshots.
Asn again that which is most evident in the game of basketball - the team that makes the most baskets scores the greater number of points and WINS the game. GO SPARTANS!!

More likely that Gray will have an Aloysius Anagonye type game... 2 pts, 6 boards and fouls out early in the second.
Still hoping for the upset... Spartans remember how to play d and hit free throws: UNC 74, MSU 77

Even if Suton was cleared to play, what good would he be, he hasn't even practiced. Let Gray do his thing under the big lights. It will give him a chance to prove he has arrived.

i would put morgan, gray, and roe on hansbrough. it doesn't sound like he is 100% but he is still pretty good even if he isn't. he is a strong player and a good foul shooter. msu needs to have one guy guard him and someone else draw a charge or two on him down low.
Posted by: xwing | December 02, 2008 at 08:49 AM
can lucas have a detroit sequel? remember last year he outplayed augustin at the palace. this year he will be playing against lawson. he needs to step up if msu has any hope of beating N.C.

Plain and simple....too expensive (especially when people are dropping money for Christmas), lousy night of the week, late start time, and horrible economy. People just cant afford this kind of stuff anymore. Same reason there were still so many empty seats at Spartan Stadium this year. Nobody's fault...just the way it is.
Posted by: Rob | December 02, 2008 at 09:20 AM
It would be nice to have him back but does MSU really want a 75% healthy Suton going against Hansboro?
Hopefully Ibok can step up now that he finally has the shot at UNC he missed a couple years ago.

Everyone that was bashing Naymick.........wouldn't you like to have him now.
Posted by: Herb Riedel | December 02, 2008 at 11:21 AM
Spartan4life: Lighten up a little, tanfan is just having fun.
Posted by: Herb Riedel | December 02, 2008 at 11:22 AM
Herb...yes to Naymick. But I never bashed him. He was BIG in the paint and had a soft touch from outside. Wish he'd have shot more.
Lakeshore...I was just kidding. I HOPE the Spartys compete against NC and hold it within 30. I'd say it's 50-50. I'm thinking Raymar will be intimidated and do his pouting turtle thing...and go into his shell.
However...I'm up for a pleasant suprise!
