Chris Solari again. Late night here, but MSU forward Goran Suton was drafted by the Utah Jazz in the second round with the 50th pick of the NBA draft. He's the first Spartan taken since the 2006 draft, when Shannon Brown (Cleveland), Maurice Ager (Dallas) and Paul Davis (L.A. Clippers) all were selected. Everett High product Suton also joins the list of former MSU-Lansing products taken in the draft that includes Waverly's Marcus Taylor (2002), Eastern's Sam Vincent (1985), Eastern's Jay Vincent (1981) and Everett's Earvin "Magic" Johnson (1979).
We're working on getting in touch with Goran. Stay tuned to greenandwhite.com for more info.

He is another Mimet Okur, (sorry for the spelling if I missed it). I like his chances. Thanks to Izzo he can already play D. That's a big deal.

I didn't think G would get drafted. He's in a good situation since the Jazz have had a couple of foreign players on their squad. Okur and AK47. he'll have an excellent opportunity to show his wares during the Rocky Mountain Review. he needs to work on putting the ball on the floor and getting to the basket and shooting off the dribble but G will rebound and hit the open jump shot.

Many people who post here did not think that Goran will make the NBA. I never doubted that, and I am proud of him. He worked his butt off this year and he deserved it averaging a double double in the NCAA finals. I was thinking last night that if any team would take him it would be the Utah. And they did! Jerry Sloan is the perfect coach for G.
..tough like Izzo.
Congrats to Shannon Brown-World Champion Lakers ..maybe he will flash his 'ring' at the Breslin this winter.

This website has kind of gone downhill after they got the new interface. I understand Joe is on vacation and all, but where are all of the stories on the main page???

It is great that G got drafted. Good for him.
Actually, it will be tough for MSU to fill his shoes. A lot of Spartans will have to step up big.
The Dancing Bear might be a force this season.

Great for him, i really didn't think any of the dummies in the NBA would be smart enough to draft a hard working team player even though he cannot win a dunk contest.
Also i wonder why Marquise never panned out. He has the perfect NBA body but was never able produce. Hope fully he may be able to have a successful career elsewhere.

Possible line-ups for next year.
Big body line-up
c. Nix pf. Morgan sf. Dancin' Bear
Length and Athletic line-up
c. Sherman pf. roe sf. morgan
Ah...imagine the possiblities

I think it had something to do with getting his team to the finals. Others were involved as well. But when you achieve something like that, all the hard work becomes paid for. Now he is really going to get paid to play. We get paid to work, he gets paid to play, and all you doubters toil in obscurity and darkness.

Marquise will play in Europe and make a decent living...it is better than the D league!

Chris, Marcus Taylor wasn't drafted but he sure did try!

I could look it up if I wasn't so lazy, but I seem to recall Marcus Taylor was drafted late in the 2nd round (maybe by the Bucks?), but didn't make the team.

msu76 is right, Marcus went #52 in 2002 (to Minnesota). JMoist is JWrong.
