Dantonio recap

To briefly summarize:

    * On Jenrette's reinstatement: "He's got himself academically squared away, he's resolved his problems at home with his family and he's worked extremely hard."

    * On Winston possibly rejoining the team: "Not at this time. He's got work to do."

    * Dantonio seemed a bit surprised that MSU was picked third. He said the coaches probably wouldn't have voted that way (media dig alert), and also mentioned that MSU has struggled with heightened expectations before and must learn to deal with them. The 2002 team that went 4-8 was the last MSU team to land in the top three in the preseason rankings here.

    * "Playing up" appears to be the phrase that pays in 2009. Dantonio mentioned the losses to Ohio State and Penn State a year ago and the importance of playing good football in games with such attention and impact. That's one of the key goals this season, along with winning the Big Ten and getting to a BCS game.

    * Not a lot else from him today, he was rushed out of there a few minutes after the podium session. He mentioned MSU's keys to success so far as coaching staff stability, resources and tradition. He had praise for Greg Jones, who is getting more attention than any MSU defensive player since ... Julian Peterson? He said nothing has changed in the QB race. Dantonio will table up for two hours Tuesday morning, so there will be more opportunities for specifics.
