News from MSU: First-string DBs

With camp in its final week, secondary coach Harlon Barnett just confirmed his first unit in a loaded defensive backfield, and there are some surprises: Chris L. Rucker (no surprise) and Jeremy Ware (surprise) at starting corners, with Marcus Hyde and Dan Fortener at the starting safety spots. Kendell Davis-Clark is the "star," or nickel back.

Barnett said he had to break the guys into units, and these are the top four to date. He said Ross Weaver and Johnny Adams will still get plenty of time at the corner spots -- as MSU did last year in rotating at that position. And Trenton Robinson -- the star of the spring -- is still right there at safety. The recognition and experience of Hyde and Fortener have them ahead right now. Roderick Jenrette also is a capable option in the back end.

More later from camp, Mark Dantonio speaks at 3:30.
