MSU right back on the field

The Spartans hit the practice field in shorts and helmets for a rare Sunday night practice, a little more than an hour to get Wisconsin buried and Michigan in focus. MSU usually starts its practice week Tuesday.

"It was important to get past this game and get it out of here," Dantonio said Sunday night as his team warmed up in the dusk.

The Spartans flew back from Wisconsin right after the game and the coaches had a quick team meeting. Then a seniors meeting. Then a captains meeting. Then the position groups met with their position coaches.

Dantonio was asked if he's worried that he had to discipline Mark Dell and B.J. Cunningham for missing a team meeting last week. He said it was an early-morning meeting, they overslept and "we didn't make a big deal about it." Both players started the game on the bench.

Overall, Dantonio was upbeat and actually joking a little bit Sunday night. He said he likes the way his players are responding, the game film revealed a lot of things that need to be fixed, but he thinks fixes can be made. There's no shortage of fixes needed, that's for sure. George Perles talked to the team last week, by the way, about his 1988 team that started 0-4-1 and won six straight games to end the regular season and make the Gator Bowl.
