The day that wouldn't end

When MSU won here 10 years ago, Morris Peterson couldn't miss a shot from outside. This time, no one could make a shot from outside.

The Spartans did enough right -- despite the fact that they let things get out of hand late in the first half and struggled for most of the night on defense -- to steal a victory. But you have no chance if your guards go 2 of 20 from 3-point range and 18 of 54 overall.
This was an encouraging night for the forward collection of Raymar Morgan, Delvon Roe and Draymond Green. It was a discouraging night for the guards who were supposed to have such a big advantage on Carolina's. Tom Izzo expressed positive feelings for the way Kalin Lucas battled fatigue and played 33 minutes at two positions, but he was none too happy with the other guards.
Overall, the result was not surprising. The way it came about was, a little bit. This team will fall in the rankings, take a bit of a beating and probably get quite a bit better in the next month.
Meanwhile, some weird stuff happened after the game on a weird day all-around for MSU. Roy Williams was asked about Delvon Roe and his book. He said that he technically did not call Roe a liar (because he didn't name him).
"But he said he was coming, let's be honest," Williams said.
Roe later acknowledged that he knew about the book. Asked for a reaction, he said: "Disappointed, but no comment."
At the same time, down the hall, Raymar Morgan's mother apparently had a medical emergency of some sort. She was examined by medical people and as far as we know, she's OK. Stay tuned on that -- and on a whole bunch of other stuff for an athletic department that could use some quiet time.
