Spring game first blush

Blushing at the prediction of a high-scoring game, first of all. The Green just beat the White 17-10, the game ending when Eric Gordon stopped Andrew Maxwell after a gain of six on a fourth-and-10 trick play with Keshawn Martin taking a screen behind the line and throwing back to Maxwell.

Greg Jones is Greg Jones, moving with speed despite the extra weight.

Kirk Cousins is Kirk Cousins, and we saw today how good Mark Dell can be when he's healthy.

Kickoffs are a big concern for this team in 2010, judging from this performance. No one could break the 10, and it was usually around the 15.

Aaron Bates was as good as anyone on the field.

Steve Gardiner is quietly turning into a linebacker who can help this team. He was impressive.

Max Bullough? Is he a junior? He'll play next season.

Not much from the defensive end position. Tyler Hoover and Colin Neely (out this spring after shoulder surgery) are due for heavy snaps in 2010.

Nick Hill has a lot of burst and wiggle, he did have a fumble on a 31-yard run, but he's an exciting player.

Keith Nichol finally got involved late and made a pair of difficult grabs.

Andrew Maxwell played well, and Charlie Gantt looks just as fast despite adding some weight in the offseason.

Antonio Jeremiah had a 6-yard carry, which was entertaining, and he played some fullback. At guard, he looked OK when I watched him, moving better than you might expect for someone that size. But I think Chris McDonald has the edge there.
