P.S. on heart story

The tragic death of former MSU swimmer John Munley mentioned here in Sunday's story on heart screening has created something positive -- the John Munley Memorial Scholarship. At Saturday's annual fund-raising meet, more than $6,500 was raised.

Munley's family established the scholarship with the help of the Spartan fund and MSU swim coaches Matt Gianiodis and Kathleen Milloy. Last year an MSU men's swimmer was awarded a $7,500 scholarship, according to John's brother Tom.

In other fund-raising events, Steve Smith's annual golf outing is going on today at the Country Club of Lansing. Dinner and silent auction at 2:30 p.m. In its first 11 years, the outing has raised more than $500,000 for MSU scholarships and children's programs in the Lansing area.
