Allen's destination, football roster, other items
Chris Allen is down to Iowa State, UTEP and St. John's, Tom Izzo said this morning, with a decision expected soon.
* If you're in the Lansing area, don't forget the Meet the Spartans event today from 5:30-7 p.m. at the corners of Albert and M.A.C. in downtown East Lansing. Players, coaches, autographs, Sparty, cheerleaders, etc.
* A caller on Tim Staudt's radio show this morning asked about Cameron Jude, and it is confirmed by associate AD John Lewandowski -- he is no longer on the roster and is expected to transfer. No big surprise considering his place on the depth chart.
* Izzo gave a couple quick injury updates. Kalin Lucas remains on course to start playing in September, while Russell Byrd (foot) still isn't playing and probably won't until September. Garrick Sherman had screws removed from his foot this summer -- they were put in early in his high school career -- and had to miss several weeks, but he's back. Adreian Payne (shoulder) is playing but still not able to do everything in the weight room. And Austin Thornton is out for a while with a back injury. So yeah, I'd say this team has had its share of injuries.
* MSU junior receiver Keshawn Martin has been named to the watch list of the brand-new Paul Hornung Award, given to the nation's most versatile player. Interesting idea for an award. Also, Charlie Gantt and Brian Linthicum are both on the watch list for the John Mackey (tight end) Award. MSU is the only school with multiple candidates.
