Depth chart day

And there really isn't much on MSU's first depth chart of the season that's surprising at all. At kicker, it's Dan Conroy OR Kevin Muma. The dreaded "OR" returns.

Other notes as we await Mark Dantonio's first game preview presser of the season:

    * "OR" at receivers as well. Mark Dell OR Keith Nichol at X. Keshawn Martin OR B.J. Cunningham at Z.

    * Larry Caper OR Edwin Baker at running back. Le'Veon Bell listed third, Nick Hill not listed.

    * At rush end (new designation this year), it's Tyler Hoover OR Denzel Drone, with Will Gholston listed third. At the other end, Colin Neely OR Todd Anderson. A slight surprise there on Anderson.

    * At nose tackle, Kevin Pickelman OR Blake Treadwell. The surprise here is that Johnathan Strayhorn has moved from end and is listed third at NT.

    * Behind Greg Jones at MLB, it's Steve Gardiner OR Max Bullough.

    * The starters are as expected in the secondary, with Darqueze Dennard backing up Johnny Adams at field corner, Mylan Hicks behind Chris L. Rucker at boundary corner, Isaiah Lewis behind Trenton Robinson at free safety and Jairus Jones No. 2 behind Marcus Hyde at strong safety.

    * Keshawn Martin is the starting kick and punt returner, joined by Robinson on kick returns. Bell and Hill are the backups. Dell is No. 2 on punt return.

UPDATE: Items of note from Dantonio:

    * It's official, Andrew Maxwell is the No. 2 quarterback in the event of injury to Kirk Cousins. Keith Nichol is working exclusively at receiver and is officially the No. 3 quarterback. This is mildly surprising, but MSU is serious about making Nichol a top receiver, and Dantonio definitely feels that can happen.

    * There's no decision yet on whether or not to redshirt Nick Hill. He may see the field Saturday.

    * Blake Treadwell (leg) is questionable for Saturday. Larry Caper is expected to play despite an undisclosed right arm/wrist injury that has had him practicing in a cast.

    * The decision to go with a rotating fourth captain came about because eight or nine guys were very close in votes after the top three. The captains will pick each week's captain from the already-elected "unity council" of 12.

BASKETBALL TROUBLE UPDATE: MSU's Korie Lucious was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving  early Monday morning. No word yet from Tom Izzo, MSU associate AD John Lewandowski said MSU is aware a ticket was issued and is gathering information before commenting further.

IZZO UPDATE: Tom Izzo released this statement on the Lucious situation this afternoon, through spokesman Matt Larson: "We're aware a ticket was issued and we're still gathering information."

No word on potential punishment for Lucious.
