What happened today

Before MSU's practice, Dave Warner told us Kirk Cousins is taking full practice reps -- something he hasn't done in quite a while.

    * After Alabama's practice, Mark Ingram told us about how he jumped around in his yard celebrating that Smoker-to-Duckett winner against U-M as an 11-year-old in Flint in 2001.

    * I got an interview with Nick Saban, for a space eater of a story to run Thursday, and among many other things he told me: "I love Michigan State and I will always try to help Michigan State."

    * Got to see the ducks walking the red carpet at the Peabody Hotel. Worth a look at 5 p.m. some day if you're in town.

   * The MSU players did their thing at Best Buy today, a bowl gift of $420 of merchandise apiece. Jon Misch got a "Rock Band 3" guitar, and he also mentioned that he'll be a big part of the entertainment at Friday's bowl luncheon involving both teams and fans. He'll play piano, but he'll also lead MSU's four-man "Rock Band" team against an Alabama team. The Spartans, with Misch on guitar, Aaron Bates on lead vocals, Eric Gordon on bass and Kevin Muma on drums, will rock "Carry on My Wayward Son" at Expert level. Yes, they're playing Kansas.

    * Don Treadwell was at practice (interestingly, he was the first one out there, before the media types arrived) and there was no word on the Treadwell-to-Miami rumors. He's ignoring my texts on the matter. Don't expect any word on this until the bowl game is finished, but don't be surprised if MSU is looking for a new offensive coordinator in the early days of 2011.

    * Coveted DL prospect Anthony Zettel was said to be debating between MSU and Michigan, but he ended up opting for the last guy in this commercial. That's gold and will never stop making me laugh.

    * Hoops. Purdue pounded Michigan in Ann Arbor, and Wisconsin just pulled out a tough one at home against Minnesota. I'm impressed with three of those four teams. The Spartans are in for a physical, physical battle on Friday against the Gophers, who remain my darkhorse contender even though tonight's loss has to sting.
