No more 50/50; more 50-plus passes?
Here's a press release from MSU on this Downtown Coaches Club business, announcing that there will be no 50/50 raffle during the 2011 football season. This announcement also makes it pretty clear that the DCC will continue to exist.
“We are reviewing the practice of booster club activities, including 50/50 raffles, that take place in all of our venues and off-campus,” Hollis said. “We’ll also take this opportunity to evaluate and define the roles of booster clubs in their support of individual teams.
“As a department, it’s important to be inclusive, providing opportunities for everyone that wants to engage with Spartan Athletics. Historically, booster clubs provide a valuable opportunity for individuals to come together and collectively support MSU and specific sports.
“The Spartan Fund is the organization for charitable giving to MSU Athletics, as its donors directly provide the financial resources and support for our 25 sports and some 750 student-athletes. Our challenge is maintaining one focus for the Athletics Department while supporting each individual sport.”
As part of the evaluation process, Hollis will address the membership of the Downtown Coaches Club at its previously-scheduled spring luncheon, set for Friday, April 29 at the Eagle Eye Golf Course.
Oops, caught me yawning. Although you won't be able to feel the excitement of clutching that little piece of paper while they call out the winning numbers next season, you may have more chances to feel the excitement of vertical passing. What a segue. Kirk Cousins said Tuesday he does expect MSU to test teams deep more often under Dan Roushar, and Roushar also hinted at that in this Q&A.
