Sherman to transfer
Garrick Sherman will transfer, MSU announced this morning.
Garrick Sherman has decided to transfer from the Michigan State basketball program. Sherman averaged 3.1 points and 12.1 minutes per contest this past season as a sophomore center for the Spartans.
“I met with every player after the season about making a commitment to the program and each other,” said MSU head coach Tom Izzo. “After spending some time at home and talking with his family, Garrick Sherman has informed me that it’s important to get a fresh start elsewhere. We appreciate his contributions over the last two seasons and wish him the best in his basketball future. I continue to look forward to this offseason as we develop with players committed to Spartan basketball.”
“I have enjoyed my two years at Michigan State ,” said Sherman . “I love my teammates and coaches and appreciate the way they helped me develop as a player. After the season, I met with Coach Izzo and after talking things over with my family, I believe it’s time for a fresh start and a new opportunity.”
No big surprise here (even though Sherman said after the UCLA game that he'll be back -- but that kind of thing happens a lot). With good summers, Payne and Nix will get big minutes next season, and they probably would have passed Sherman. He can be a good player somewhere after sitting a year and continuing to add strength.
