Final: Green 24, White 10
Dion Sims took a short pass from Kirk Cousins, flattened Isaiah Lewis and outran everyone else for a 42-yard touchdown, an eye-opening reminder of what he can do on the football field.
Rashad White was a load. So was Will Gholston. These are some of the main reasons the Green team won the game. For the White, Andrew Maxwell had a rough start but came on late with a pretty 38-yard touchdown strike to Keshawn Martin. Lippett got beat on that one. Le'Veon Bell (8 for 46) had the best day among running backs, but the Green team hardly bothered, with Edwin Baker getting five carries and Larry Caper a pair. It's just hard to establish a running game with a split offensive line like this -- which practiced once together before the game.
Despite the Sims touchdown, I liked what I saw from Lewis, and Johnny Adams has to be the fastest player on the team. MSU's No. 1 defensive backs look good, but there's a pretty big drop to the No. 2 group.
It was hard to get a good evaluation of the linemen, although I thought Dan France looked agile in pass protection. The DVR of this one will be worth watching. MSU had tons of false start penalties today -- quite a contrast to a year ago, when just three penalties were called in the spring game.
