Spring game halftime thoughts

Green leads White 7-3 at the half, with both defenses playing well and both makeshift offensive lines having some trouble.

    * Le'Veon Bell looks really good, 40 yards on six carries so far. He looks like "first half of 2010 Le'Veon." Not sure why Nick Hill hasn't carried the ball yet.

    * Games like this help people see why Kirk Cousins is the starter and Andrew Maxwell is the backup. Cousins has been sharp (8 of 10, 82 yards) and Maxwell is 4 of 13 for 49 yards. One problem for Maxwell is that Will Gholston and Rashad White are living in his backfield.

    * Tony Lippett has played both ways, hauling in a beautiful 57-yard bomb from Cousins and just snuffing an attempted fade in the end zone from Maxwell to B.J. Cunningham.

    * Did I mention Gholston? He looks really good. Also in the trenches, Dan France looks good in pass protection, and Marcus Rush's speed is very evident today. Steve Gardiner and Max Bullough have been active at the linebacker position.

    * Good crowd today, I'd say it's a solid 30,000. MSU is honoring some of its former players on the field right now.
