Spring game primer
Here are few things worth watching if you're at Spartan Stadium today -- or if you're viewing the game on tape delay at 8 tonight on the Big Ten Network (Will Tieman and Jason Strayhorn on the call). You can also purchase the live stream online at bigtennetwork.com, and the game will be broadcast on radio to several affiliates -- 1240-AM in the Lansing area -- with George Blaha on the call, former Spartan/current New York Jet Eric Smith on color and Adam Ruff on the sidelines.
It's an MSU-BTN kind of day, with live coverage at 3 of the MSU-Penn State baseball game at McLane Stadium. The Spartans stayed in first place with a dramatic win Friday.
Jerel Worthy said he'll be paying attention today to MSU's less-experienced defenders -- he mentioned Max Bullough, Rashad White, Isaiah Lewis and Kurtis Drummond -- on both sides of the field.
“When they’re not in the comfort zone of the complete defense," Worthy said, "how are they gonna play?”
As for the fact that Denzel Drone went No. 1 among defensive ends, Worthy could see it coming.
“It really didn’t surprise me, just because of the simple fact he’s grown a lot this spring," Worthy said of Drone. "He’s a guy that’s been in the film room watching hours and hours of film. He’s a guy that, the coach makes the corrections in the film room, he goes out there and applies those corrections. And it shows. Obviously some of the seniors see his play, notice his play. And he’s a playmaker, he’s making interceptions, causing fumbles. And the White team wanted something like that. And we’ve got him, I’m glad I’ve got him and I’m glad we can go out there and play together.”
Check back later for updates from Spartan Stadium. I'm looking for a possible surprise that will be a big part of today's story.
