Spartans strike with three commitments

This is Denny in for Joe. Spots in the 2012 Michigan State recruiting class are going quickly. Rivals.com is reporting that the Spartans have received verbal commitments from WR/DB Kyle Kerrick of Coatesville, Pa., LB Jamal Lyles of Southfield and TE Josiah Price of Greentown, Ind.

All three players are 3-star prospects according to Rivals.com. Lyles is rated as the 44th best outside linebacker in the country according to Rivals. I'm trying to get a few quotes from Kerrick for all of you, but he's at a 7-on-7 camp and I've been instructed not to call until after 9 p.m. Lyles is a good-looking prospect who also had offers from Illinois, Iowa, Stanford, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. After missing out on in-state linebackers James Ross from Orchard Lake St. Mary's and Royce Jenkins-Stone from Detroit Cass Tech, Lyles made for a good pickup. Kerrick is a tall target at 6-foot-3, much like Juwan Caesar (6-4) in the 2010 Spartan class. With the transfer of Donald Spencer, the WR position is going to be pretty thin after Keshawn Martin, B.J. Cunningham and Keith Nichol are gone following this season. There's still a possibility he could be moved to defensive back down the line, but with Kerrick in the fold as a wide receiver, MSU can afford to wait on more heralded wideout recruits like Aaron Burbridge, Dwayne Stanford and Monty Madaris. With the Spencer transfer, I wouldn't be surprised if MSU takes two or three more WR in this class, and one of the three recruits I just mentioned would be the top of the crop. With Price and Evan Jones of West Lafayette, Ohio, the Spartans should be done taking tight ends in this class.
